BIOGRAPHY
Shotgun Venus are a dark, intense rock 3-piece from London, UK and have been together since May 2009. They are the brainchild and apocalyptic vision of Anna Tosh Hall, a 26-year-old singer, guitarist and songwriter. Anna has been writing and playing in bands since she was 16 (she was guitarist in Hey Gravity, who were top 10 for 3 months in the French single charts in 2007), however she considers Shotgun Venus to be the culmination of all her efforts up to now. She combines with Herman Stephens on bass guitar and Steve Grainger on drums, both of whom also sing backing vocals resulting in gorgeous 3-piece harmonies and counter-melodies over a back-drop of searing riffs, animalistic beats and grinding basslines.

Anna’s lyrics tend to be intensely personal, telling stories of loss, love, death and sex in a way that is both savage and beautiful. She describes her music as ‘tuneful rage’ and Shotgun Venus has been compared to ‘Blondie on mescaline’, although she thinks a better analogy would be a ‘drunk Skunk Anansie’ or ‘PJ Harvey on smack’. Though for the record, she states that she does not take drugs any more as she finds life much more inspiring without them. The band’s influences do include the above artists, but also span wider to include bands and artists such as Guns n’ Roses, PiL, Thin Lizzy, NIN, Parliament, Muse, Nick Cave, Nirvana and B.B King…

Shotgun Venus are currently in their West London rehearsal studio writing new material for their debut album, making plans for a tour of Scandinavia in the summer and honing their intense live show in and around London.
